WASHINGTON : Donald Trump has become the third US president in history to be impeached. He was ousted on Wednesday by the Democratic-led House of Representatives for his abuse of power related to his dealings with Ukraine and obstruction of Congress.
The historic move yesterday comes after a more than two-month inquiry by House Democrats, who accuse the president of forcing Ukraine to open an investigation into his rival and former vice president, Joe Biden. Biden is the frontrunner in 2020 Democratic presidential race.
Trump is also accused of obstructing investigations initiated by the House, by refusing to comply with subpoenas and directing members of his administration to do the same.
The impeachment sets stage for a likely trial in the Republican-led Senate in January.
