Imran Khan Gets 3-year Jail Sentence In Gifts Corruption Case; Barred From Politics For 5 Years

Islamabad : Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was sentenced  to three years in jail in corruption case apart from also barred from participating in active politics for five years.

The 70-year-old cricketer-turned-politician was found guilty of illegally selling gifts he received from foreign dignitaries during his time in office as prime minister. According to the government, the gifts included watches from the royal family,  

The verdict was pronounced by Islamabad District and Sessions Court Judge Humayun Dilawar. Khan denies the charges and said he will file appeal.

Imran Khan’s stint as prime minister ended abruptly when Opposition passed a no-confidence vote last year - a move Khan alleges was backed by the country’s military who he had antagonised  from time to time.
