Infections rises to 31,453 as coronavirus continues to ravage Gulf

Manama: The deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to ravage across the six gulf countries, infecting more than 31,453 people and killing nearly190.

Twelve deaths and over 2,383 new positive cases of Covid-19 were recorded across the gulf on Tuesday, the highest one-day jump so far.

Saudi Arabia reported six deaths, while UAE reported three, Kuwait two and Oman one.

The total registered cases across the GCC stands as: Saudi Arabia-11,631, UAE-7,755, Qatar-6,533, Kuwait-2,080, Bahrain-1,952, and Oman-1,508.

A total of 1,147 new infections and six more deaths were recorded in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. The death toll in the country rose to 109. The total number of recoveries reached 1,640, leaving 9,882 active cases, 81 of them critical.

The country have conducted more than 2,00,000 tests to detect the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) so far in the Kingdom.

Four people, including three Asians, died of Covid-19 in the UAE on Tuesday, taking the death toll in the country to 46.

The country reported 490 new cases and 83 new recoveries on the same day. The total number of recovery rose 1,443.

Two expat workers died in Kuwait due to coronavirus infection, the ministry of health announced on Tuesday. The same day, Kuwait confirmed 85 new Covid-19 cases. Of the latest cases, 37 were Indians, pushing the infected Indians to 1169. 

A 53-year-old expat died of COVID-19 in Oman, bringing the total fatalities to eight, the ministry of health said.  The country reported 98 new coronavirus cases, on Tuesday. Of the latest cases, 59 foreigners and 39 Omanis, the ministry added without giving a breakdown.

Qatar confirmed 518 new cases, while Bahrain registered 45.
