US President Donald Trump officially confirmed death of ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi at a press conference held in White House, Sunday.
"Baghdadi was on surveillance for a couple of weeks," Trump said.
The chief after running into a tunnel in the village of Barisha, detonated an explosive vest, killing himself and three of his children, the president added.
Trump went on to thank Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Russia and the Syrian Kurds for their cooperation.
The world reaction to Baghdadi's death is mixed. While some governments hailed it as "turning point" in fight against terrorism, others down played it as insignificant.
Bagdhadi, who headed IS for past 5 years, was killed in a US military attack conucted in northwest Syria.
He was on international manhunt for years and has been incorrectly reported dead multiple times before.
