LONDON : WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is in very bad state of health and could die if not shifted to a hospital, say 60 doctors in their open letter to the British Interior Minister.

The 48-year-old, who spent seven years hold up in Ecuador’s embassy in London was dragged out and sent to  a prison in London this April.

He is wanted in the United States to face 18 charges including conspiring to hack government computers and violating an espionage law.

The 16-page letter, published by WikiLeaks on Monday, says Assange suffers from psychological problems including depression as well as dental issues and a serious shoulder ailment.

The Australian should be moved from Belmarsh prison in southeast London to a university hospital, the doctors recommend.

Assange is presently fighting a US bid to extradite him from UK on charges filed under Espionage Act that can fetch up to 175 in a US prison.
