Brasila : Workers’ Party leader Lula da Silva won presidential election in Brazil defeating far-right incumbent Jair Bolsonaro. In an extremely tight race, Lula da Silva beat Bolsonaro securing 50.9 pernent of the votes. Bolsonaro came to power in 2018 after da Silva, 77, was put away in prison over a scandal.
Da Silva’s victory extends on a wave of recent leftist victories in the region, including Chile Columbia and Argentina. Da Silva is scheduled to be sworn in on 1 January, 2023.
Upon victory, Da Silva vowed a return to state-driven economic growth and social policies that uplifted millions out of poverty during his previous term as president between 2003 – 2010.
