DUBAI : A court in Dubai sentenced a 44-year-old man from Thiruvananthapuram's Nemom to life in prison for stabbing his wife in broad daylight at a parking lot near her office following his suspicions of an affair.
Vidhya Chandra(40), a Kollam native, was a mother of two was expecting to fly home with her children for Onam on 9th of September when she was killed the same night. She was discovered lying motionless in a pool of blood by her 32-year-old Indian manager. Her husband, Yugesh, who at that time was in Dubai on visit visa, was immediately arrested from UAE’s Jebel Ali.
According to the defense lawyer, Yugesh grew suspicious of Vidhya behaviour and contacted her manager. The manager responded with text messages hinting to a possible affair Vidhya might be having with another man there. On the fateful night, Yugesh walked Vidhya to the parking from her office. There, Vidhya argued over embarrassment Yugesh caused by hugging her in front of the manager. An argument followed after which, Yugesh stabbed her thrice using a knife. He then fled the scene.
According to friends in Dubai, Vidhya was a very hard working woman who struggled provide for her family. One of them said, Vidhya sustained herself on biscuits sometimes to send home the needed money. She was constantly harassed by her husband - a suffering she took silently, considering their daughters’ wellbeing, they said.
Vidhya’s brother, Vinay Chandran said, while the family was satisfied with court holding him guilty the family had expected capital punishment for Yugesh.
