A 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck U.S. in Alaska near Sand Point in the state’s southwestern part. Post the tsunami, waves of which measured a little over 4 feet, residents of the town headed to higher ground away from the shoreline. Evacuation orders were issued for low-lying areas.
Several aftershocks, including a 5.9 magnitude tremor and one that was 5.8 struck in the hour after the big quake.
