Manama: Oman will lift the coronavirus lockdown of its Muscat governorate from Friday, state news agency said on Wednesday.
As per the new decisions, normal traffic between Muscat Governorate and other governorates will be facilitated, and the economic activities will also be resumed. At least 50 per cent of employees should attend at their workplace from May 31, the government supreme committee for Tackling COVID-19 said.
The capital city Muscat, Muttrah district (Wilayat) and Jalan Bani Buali town were put under lockdown from April 10 to stem the spread of coronavirus in Oman. But the new decision does not include the Wilayah of Mattrah, which will remain on health isolation.
The Supreme Committee emphasised the role of every person to abide by precautionary measures to protect themselves.
The Committee urged all establishments to set policies, and procedures that protect their staff and customers against virus infection.
Oman has reported 8,373 coronavirus cases in total, including 39 deaths. The country registered 255 new cases and one more deaths on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Kuwait has announced that it will replace the complete lockdown with a partial curfew from May 31. The country has been witnessing a recent spike in virus infection and deaths. Kuwait has confirmed 23, 267 coronavirus cases, of which 175 have died and 4,976 people have recovered, to date.
