Oman increases expat recruitment fees in some sectors

Manama:  Oman’s Ministry of Labour has announced an increase in fees to hire expatriates in some professions, as part of its measures to promote the nationalization drive.

According to the new decision, fees for the recruitment of non-Omani in a top position have been raised to OMR2,001, while the mid-level position is raised to OMR1,001.

Fee for employing expats in a technical, skilled or specialised position will be raised OMR601 per expat worker.

The recruiting fee in sectors such as animal husbandry, fisheries and agriculture were also revised.

In the fisheries sector, recruitment fee for fisherman will be OMR 36.

A two-tiered recruitment fee system also imposed in animal husbandry, agriculture and domestic workers sectors. The fee for the first three non-Omani farm workers and animal breeders has been set at OMR201 per head, while from the fourth employee onwards will be OMR301. The fee for the first three domestic workers will be OMR141 per head. And if the employers wish to hire more, they will have to fork out OMR241 per worker.

Fee for switching of jobs of expats will be OMR5, while updating a workers employment status will also cost the same amount.

Hiring the first five foreign workers in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will be OMR101 per head, but bringing in up to another five will cost OMR151 per person.
