Manama: After Saudi Arabia, Oman has also temporarily suspended all international passenger flights amid fears about the fast-spreading new strain of the coronavirus.
The Oman state television on Monday said the country will close its land, air and sea borders, and halt flights for one week, starting from Tuesday at 1 am.
In an emergency meeting on Monday, the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling COVID-19 decided to prohibit entry to and exit from the Sultanate via all travel outlets for a period of one week, Oman TV said.
Cargo aircraft, ships and trucks are exempted from the ban, it said.
The move comes amid reports of the outbreak of the fast-spreading of variant COVID-19 in a number of countries, Oman TV said.
The committee will continue monitoring the epidemiological status of the new coronavirus variant and will take appropriate decisions accordingly. Report added.
