BAGHDAD : Outage over recent US strikes on Iran-backed Shite militia group broke seams, with hundreds of Iraqi protesters and militia fighters attacking the heavily fortified US embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday.
Men waving Iraqi and militia flags chanted “Death to America” as they stormed into the compound and torched a security post there. They also hurled stones at the security personnel who fired stun grenades and tear gas to disperse the crowds.
There were no reports of casualties, but the attack was one of the worst kin on a US embassy in recent times. The Pentagon said it had deployed extra troops to protect the mission.
US President Donald Trump blamed Iran for ‘orchestrating’ the attack.
