Record Covid Deaths In Spain, 838 ; US Fatalities Could Go Up To 2 lakh

ROME : Italy reported 838 deaths in 24 hours, surpassing Italy’s highest daily record  of 638. There were 756 deaths in Italy on Sunday, taking the Italy-Spain combine toll to 17,000.  Individually, 10,779 persons have died in Italy and 6,528 in Spain up to now.  There has been a slight drop in new cases in Spain though.

Death toll in US crossed 2,400 with New York alone reporting 1000 fatalities. Officials in US quoted the pandemic as national disaster with 1,41,854 lives lost to the virus so far. With surge in fresh cases, social distancing guidelines in the country were extended to April 30.  US President Donald Trump said the spread was expected to spike in coming days and would be brought under control by 1st of June. 264 died of the disease in US on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Institute of  Allergy And Infectious Disease estimated  a total of 2 lakh deaths for the country and the numbers of those infected to touch 10 lakh. The  figures were revealed by  Director Antony Hause to   CNN - a member of Trump’s Coronavirus Task Force.

Worldwide, the number of  confirmed Covid-19 cases crossed 7 lakh. According to latest statistics tally  for world’s infected stands at  7,21,562 and total deaths at 33,965. Over 1 lakh have survived the virus.  

Among other developments, , France on Sunday recorded 292 fatalities, UK 209 and  Iran 123. Russia has quarantined its capital of Moscow. There are 1534 active cases of the virus in Russia and 8 have died so far, of which  4 succumbed to the virus last 24 hours alone
