Saudi Arabia reports first Covid death, third death in Bahrain

Manama: Sudi Arabia annonced on Tuesday the first death due to novel coronovirus (COVID-19) in the kingdom. The decesed was 51 year old Afgan expatriate worker who was staying in the holy city of Madinah, Ministry of Health said during a press briefing.

The total number of infected cases in the kingdom has risen to 767 after 205 people were diagnosed with the disease in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. This is highest single-day toll in the kingdom. Nine people dishcarged, bringing the total number of recovering cases to 28 so far in the kingdom.

Meaniwhile, a 65-year-old Bahriani man on Tuesday succumbed to Covid-19, taking the kingdom's death toll to three. The Bahraini man was suffering from underlying and chronic health problems prior to his death, said the Ministy of Health. The deceased who had returned from Iran via an indirect flight, was placed in isolation and received extensive 24-hour treatment from a specialised medical team, mnistry added.

The first Covid-19 death was reported in the kingdom on 16 March; the victim was a 65-year-old Bahraini woman. On Sunday, Bahrain reported the second death from coronavirus in the country, when a 51-year-old Bahraini woman was succumbed to the virus.

There are currently 212 novel coronavirus cases in Bahrain. Two of them are in critical condition. The Ministry of Health statement carried by the Bahrain News Agency (BNA)
highlighted that, excluding the two, all other active COVID-19 cases remain stable and are receiving treatment from a specialised medical team. 177 patients were discharged from the hospital. This is the highest recovery rate in the GCC.

Novel coronavirus or Covid-19, deadly pathogen, continues to wreak havoc across the Middle Eastern countries. The number of coronavirus cases in the Gulf rose to 1979 in the gulf region. According to country wise data, the COVID - 19 death toll has risen to six in the Gulf; three in Bahrain, two in UAE and one in Saudi Arabia.

Qatar on Tuesday confirmed 25 new coronavirus cases in the state, which include 16 cases of expatriate workers and nine cases of Qatari nationals, said Spokesperson of the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khater. The new cases take the tally to 526, making it the second worst- hit country in the Gulf, after Saudi Arabia.

Two new coronavirus cases have been reported in the state of Kuwait, said the Ministry of Health on Tuesday. The newly diagnosed cases, including one Indian, bringing the number of infection in the county to 191.

Oman on Tuesday reported 18 new coronavirus cases, taking the total infections in the sultanate to 84. All of the latest cases are Oman citizens.

Meanwhile, Oman Air, the country's flag carrier, will stop its flights service between Turkish city of Istanbul, the official Omani news agency ONA reported on Tuesday
