Manama: Saudi Arabia warned that it will deport expats who fail to adhere to the coronavirus preventive measures, local Arab media reported.

Persons who fail to abide by the Covid-19 protocols, including wearing face masks covering mouth and nose, or failing to observe social distancing or refusing to have their temperatures taken, will be fined SR 1,000, Okaz newspaper quoted authorities as saying.

The fine will be doubled if the violation is repeated for the second time. Foreigners will be deported after paying the fines, the report added.

As per the revised guidelines, social gatherings such as celebration or mourning that take place inside homes, rest houses or farms, are allowed, but attendees should not surpass 50 people.

The private sector is also instructed to enact precautionary measures, such as providing disinfectants and sanitisers to staff, and monitoring the temperatures of both staff and customers at the entrances.

Shopping malls need to sterilize shopping trolleys and baskets after each use, sanitising facilities and surfaces. Also, authorities directed to close children’s playing areas and fitting rooms in shopping malls and ready-wear outlets.

Private sector establishments violating preventive protocols, including wearing face masks properly, could face a fine of up to SR10, 000.

Authorities called on people to report offenders by dialing the toll free number 999. In the city of Makkah, the toll free number is 911.
