Manama: Saudi Arabia is set to release prisoners in financial cases after an order from King Salman, on Tuesday.

King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud ordered the temporary suspension of execution of final verdicts and judicial orders related to the imprisonment of debtors in private law suits, state run Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

King Salman also ordered the immediate release of those who were detained with regard to these rulings and judgements.

The royal decree come in accordance with the kingdom’s efforts to curb the spread of novel coronavirus.

King Salman also ordered the suspension of final rulings related to enabling children to visit one of their separated parents.

These suspensions will continue until the concerned committee announces the end to the exceptional circumstances due to the coronavirus pestilence.

The Minister of Justice, who is also the president of the Supreme Judicial Council, Dr. Walid bin Mohammed Al-Samaani, confirmed that the captivity orders were immediately lifted, and the law-enforcement authority have been notified to enforce it. The rulings of visitation of children were suspended electronically and the parties have been notified by a text message, he added.

In response to the royal orders, he thanked King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their care and kind gesture towards the citizens and residents who are included in this order.

There are many expats in Saudi jail, including keralites, for financial related cases like bounced cheques or bail bonds. The king's order will be soothing for them.

As a measure to combat the virus, Saudi Arabia released more than 250 prisoners who had been jailed for residency violations from Al-Shumaisi Prison, last month.

Earlier in March, after a royal order from King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Bahrain has released 901 prisoners from various prisons.

The rights group hailed the measures taken by some of the countries in the Middle East as they had conditionally released thousands of prisoners, including Iran which released about 70,000 prisoners.
