Manama: The Saudi-led coalition fighting against Yemen’s Houthi militia said on Monday it intercepted and destroyed an armed drone launched towards Saudi Arabia for the second day running.
The coalition said in a statement on Saudi state TV that the armed drone was launched by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi militia and was taking measures to destroy Houthi capabilities in accordance with international law.
On Sunday, the coalition said it had intercepted four explosive-laden drones launched by Yemen’s Houthi militia towards southern Saudi Arabia which borders Yemen.
Three drones were shot down on Sunday evening, and another was intercepted early in the morning, according to Saudi Press Agency.
The coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Malki said in a statement that the drones were sent in a systematic and deliberate manner to target civilians and civilian facilities in the southern region.
The attacks threatened regional and international security, he added.
This strike is the latest Houthi attack against Saudi, following sporadic attempted attacks on various locations in the country in recent weeks.
The Kingdom has intercepted hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles fired from Yemen so far.
