Saudi, UAE, Kuwait and Oman report Covid-19 deaths; infections continue to soar

Manama: The death toll from coronavirus continued to rise on Sunday as Saudi Arabia recorded another 4 deaths, pushing the overall total to 29.  Kuwait has also confirmed its first coronavirus related death, while Oman its second and the UAE its 10th.

Three expats and one female citizen died of coronavirus in Saudi Arabia, according to the Ministry of Health.

140 new cases reported in the country on Saturday, taking the infected cases to 2,179.

The four new deaths included three expat workers from Madinah, Makkah and Jeddah. The one expat, who succumbed to the illness in Madinah early Saturday, is suspected to be a Keralite hailing from Panoor, in Kannur, according to reports.

Total recovery jumped to 420 in the Kingdom after 69 new recovery, the Ministry of Health spokesman said in a press briefing.

The capital city Riyadh reported the highest number of virus cases on Saturday, with 66 cases. While Jeddah confirmed 21 cases on the same day.

 

First Death in Kuwait

An Indian expat dies in Kuwait due to coronavirus infection. The victim was identified as Vinayakumara, 46, a native of Gujarat who died at the Jabir Hospital early Saturday.

This is the first death in the country due to Covid-19.

Two days ago, a 60-year- old Indian, who was on home quarantine in Kuwait, died on the way to the hospital. Although the cause of death was heart attack, postmortem revealed that he had been infected of coronavirus. The health ministry said that they are awaiting WHO’s covid categorization in this case, as linking this death to coronavirus infection will be determined by WHO.

The county also reported 62 new coronavirus infections on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases to 479. Of the newly infected cases, 50 are Indians, which rose total number of Indians under treatment to 165.

 

10th death, 241 cases in UAE

A 53-year-old Arab lady died in the UAE due to Covid, bringing the number of death in the county to 10, according to the official spokesperson for the UAE health sector, Dr Farida Al Hosani.

The UAE also reported 241 new coronavirus infections on Saturday.

This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 1,505, the second highest in the Gulf.

It is the highest-single day toll of infections that is reported in the UAE since the emergence of the coronavirus in the country.

The ministry also announced 17 people fully recovered from the infection, taking the total recoveries to 125.

 

2nd Death in Oman

Late on Saturday, a 72-year-old citizen died in Oman from coronavirus infection. This is the second death in the country due to covid-19.

The country confirmed 25 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the total cases to 277.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that so far 61 have recovered from the disease and one person has succumbed to the illness.

 

250 new cases in Qatar

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Qatar rose to 1,325 after 250 new cases recorded in the country.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, the country recorded a total of 109 recoveries from the infection with 16 new retrievals.

Of the latest cases, some related to foreign travel while others related to contacts.

Meanwhile the number of people tested for COVID-19 is 31,951.

 

Bahrain records nearly 400 recoveries

Bahrain recorded 15 new coronavirus cases in the Kingdom, taking the total number of active cases to 286. Of these new cases, 22 patients are Bahraini citizens who recently came back from Iran. Three patients are in critical condition.

According to latest statistics from the Ministry of Health, of the 286 active cases, 97 patients are Indians.

399 patients discharged, which continues to be the highest recovery rate in the GCC.
