Saying Sorry “Not Enough”; Relatives Of U.S. Drone Strike Victims Demand Accountability, Compensation

Relatives of 10 Afghans, including young children, killed in U.S. drone strike demand accountability and financial compensation over deaths of their loved ones.

In the incident, Ezmarai Ahmadi was allegedly wrongly identified by Washington as an Islam State militant. U. S. intelligence reportedly tracked his white Toyota for eight hours on August 29 before targeting the car with a missile that killed seven children and three adults

The US military had initially defended the strike saying it had targeted IS ‘facilitator’ and distrupted the militants’ ability to carry out attacks at the Airport in final stages of the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO troops from Afghanistan. On Friday,  Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, commander of U.S. Central command apologised for the civilian deaths terming it as a “tragic mistake”.  

Following this, In separate interviews with news media,, the family members demanded face-to-face apology, financial compensation and relocation to America or any other country that might be safe.

Emal Ahmadi, whose 3-year-old daughter was killed in the strike responded saying  sorry is “not enough” and that the U.S. should track the person ‘who did this.’

“We demand justice from international institutions. Then we want compensations,” he told global reporters..
