Short of 10 Guilty Votes, Trump Gets Acquitted in Capitol Riot Trial

Former US. President Donald Trump was on Sunday acquitted of charges for inciting the deadly attack on the country’s parliament building, the Capitol in January.

The Senate trial concluded on Saturday with a 57-43 vote in favour of convicting Trump. The vote was bipartisan, with seven Republicans joining Democrats and independents but fell short of 10 guilty votes required to reach the 67-vote mark (two-thirds) to secure impeachment.

The attack on Capitol by Trump supporters took place on Senate certification day of 6 January leaving 9 dead including a police officer. Vastly viewed as Trump’s obsession with being re-elected, the acquittal came has a big disappointment to many, especially after graphic moments including rioters beating with hockey sticks,   the deceased police officer being squeezed behind door to death, and so forth were footed during the trial.
