Manama: Infections and fatalities due to coronavirus disease continued to escalate in the Gulf, as six gulf countries reported a record increase of 1,157 cases in the past 24 hours, pushing the total number to 9,136, according to the official sources. The GCC death toll is now 67.
Saudi Arabia reported three deaths on Tuesday while the UAE, and Bahrain reported one each. Qatar also reported two deaths on the same day. Also, there has been an alarming spike in the number of positive COVID-19 cases.
Saudi sees a spike in fatality and infection
Three more people died of coronavirus in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, jumping the country’s death toll to 41.
The infection cases in the Kingdom reached 2,795, after 190 people confirmed of the virus.
Of these cases, 615 people were recovered from the illness, and now remaining 2,163 active cases.
Qatar Reports 6th Fatality
Two more people died of coronavirus in the state of Qatar, bringing the country’s death toll to six on Tuesday, said Ministry of Public Health.
Qatar reported 225 new cases, taking total virus infection count to 2,057 in the country. Ministry also announced a total of 150 recoveries from the infection which include 19 new recoveries.
The latest victims were Qatari citizens, 74-year-old and 50-year-old, who have underlying chronic diseases, which complicated their infections, ministry added.
The ministry stated that it conducted 3,710 tests to detect the coronavirus on Tuesday alone and 225 people were confirmed positive among them. The total number of Covid-19 tests done in Qatar now stands at 41,818.
The UAE records 12th Death, a spike in cases
An Asian expat worker died in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, pushing the country’s fatality to 12.
The same day the UAE reported 283 new cases of the virus infection. The total number of COVID-19 cases now stand at 2359, including 186 recoveries.
The new cases, all of whom are in a stable condition and receiving treatment, said the Ministry of Health and prevention.
5th Death in Bahrain
A 70-year-old citizen died due to covid-19 in Bahrain, taking the country’s death toll to 5.
The Bahraini man was a history underlying and chronic health problems prior to his death, said the Ministry of Health.
Bahrain’s total Covid-19 cases rose to 349 after 55 people tested positive on Tuesday. Out of these new cases, 41 foreign workers from a labour camp in Hidd.
Earlier on Monday, a total of 31 expat workers who had been under observation in Salmabad were diagnosed with the disease yesterday.
So far 811 people have been diagnosed with the disease in Bahrain. Of these, 458 were cured, leaving the active cases as 353.
Kuwait recorded 78 new virus infections on Tuesday, including 59 Indians. As many as 363 Indians were infected of the disease.
