Thailand : Suspected terrorists killed at least 15 people at a security checkpoint on Tuesday night, in what is described as the "biggest attack " in recent years.

The shootout happened in Thailand's insurgency plagued border region with Malaysia, Yala. A police officer and numerous village defence volunteers were killed in the incident.

The attackers used explosives and then scattered nails on roads to slow down people chasing after them.

No group has claimed responsibility so far, though separatist rebels are believed to be behind the attack.

They have been seeking some form of independence in Southern Thailand.
