Toll in Turkey - Syria Earthquake Crosses 1300

Toll in the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked Turkey and neighbouring Syria has crossed 1300.

As per US Geological Survey, the quake,  centred in Gaziantep  measures 18 km deep.

2818 buildings collapsed in Turkey. Multiple strong aftershocks ripped through the region including as far away as Lebanon and Israel. Rescuers are scouring the debris of fallen structures to search for survivors. Over 2400 have been saved so far.

Hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, displaced by the war in their country, are settled in the worst-hit regions.

Turkey has appealed for help from the international community, that’s trickling in one by one.
