Manama: The UAE has entered the late stage of coronavirus vaccine development, according to an official statement. The country has moved on to the third stage of Covid-19 vaccine research and clinical trials, said Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention.
“We are in the third stage of the study and clinical trials. The vaccines are being tested with more than 15,000 volunteers participating. All conditions and requirements for the safety of volunteer participants will be fulfilled”, he said during a virtual briefing on Monday night.
We will follow the best global standards for the research. If either vaccine proves to be safe and effective, it will move to the manufacturing phase, he added.
The country has also carried out 4.18 million tests to date, helping to control the spread of the virus, a government spokeswoman said on Monday.
The UAE had earlier announced that it had started a phase 3 clinical trial of a Covid-19 vaccine that is expected to be available by the end of 2020 or early 2021.
On June 23, the state media reported that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and China have launched a Phase 3 clinical trial of a coronavirus vaccine. The trial agreement was signed by UAE-based artificial intelligence and cloud computing company G42 and the Sinopharm Group, a Chinese pharmaceutical company and affiliate of CNBG.
