Manama: Cases of novel coronavirus infections are ramping up in the Gulf, with six countries announcing confirmed infections in the past 24 hours.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Gulf countries rose to 5,719 on Friday and 42 people have died of the disease, official statistics showed.
Total new cases rose to 645 in the six gulf countries on Friday. Also, five deaths recorded; four in Saudi and one in the UAE.
Four deaths, 154 new cases in Saudi
Four more people died of the coronavirus in Saudi Arabia, bringing the country’s death toll to 25, as the number of infections nationwide climbed to 2,039 after 154 new cases recorded.
Death toll due to novel coronavirus continued in the third consecutive day in Saudi. Five people, including three foreigners, have died on Thursday.
Total recovery jumped to 353 in the Kingdom after 23 new recovery, the Ministry of Health spokesman said in a press briefing.
Madinah reported the highest number of virus cases on Friday, with 34 cases. While Jeddah confirmed 30 cases on the same day.
The UAE records 9th death
A 52-year-old Asian patient died in the UAE due to Covid, bringing the number of death in the county to nine, Ministry of Health and Prevention said on Friday.
He was suffering from chronic diseases and condition including kidney failure, the ministry said.
The UAE also reported 240 new coronavirus infections on Friday, its biggest daily rise so far, taking the total number of cases to 1,264, the second highest in the Gulf.
The ministry also announced 12 people fully recovered from the infection, taking the total recoveries to 108.
126 new cases, 26 recoveries in Qatar
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Qatar roses to 1,075.
According to the Ministry of Public Health, 126 new coronavirus infections were reported on Friday. Ministry also announced a total of 93 recoveries from the infection with 21 new retrievals.
Of the latest cases, some related to foreign travel while others related to contacts.
Meanwhile the number of people tested for COVID-19 is 28,413.
42 Indians tested positive in Kuwait
75 people, including 42 Indians, were confirmed of coronavirus infections in Kuwait on Friday, pushing the total cases to 417.
The country has announced the recovery of 82 people from the virus. The active cases now stands at 352, including 14 in the intensive care unit.
As of Wednesday, 115 Indians have been diagnosed with the disease in Kuwait.
30 new cases in Bahrain
Bahrain confirmed 30 new coronavirus cases in the Kingdom, taking the total number of active cases to 281. Of these new cases, 22 patients are Bahraini citizens who recently came back from Iran. Three patients are in critical condition.
According to latest statistics from the Ministry of Health, of the 281 active cases, 97 patients are Indians.
Of the total infected cases, 47 are Bahraini children, including a three month old baby. The three month old tested positive after coming in contact with two other positive cases.
388 patients discharged, which continues to be the highest recovery rate in the GCC.
21 new cases in Oman
The Sultanate of Oman confirmed 21 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the total cases to 252.
The Ministry of Health confirmed that so far 57 have recovered from the disease and one person has succumbed to the illness.
