New York : New York ,one of US’s Covid hotspots in terms of infections and hundreds of deaths, now reports coronavirus in one of its striped feline at the zoo, while three other cats are suspected of the bug.
The big cat is a 4-year-old Malayan tiger at the Bronxz Zoo that developmed dry cought before testing positive for Covid-19 on Sunday. . She, her sister Azul, two Amur tigers and three African lions all have dry cough and are , according to zoo authorities, “expected to recover”. Incidentally, all the four are presently quarantined in zoo’s Tiger Mountain exhibit, where they continue to be playful, alert , eating well and interactive with their keepers.
None of the other cats at the zoo, including leopards, cheetahs and pumas, have shown any symptom so far.
The zoo has been closed since 16 March owing to escalated virus outbreak in the city.
