300+ cyclists to participate in 50-km cyclothone on Sunday to raise awareness on environ-friendly urban planning

Kochi : GCDA, teamed up with Kochi Next, will organize a 50-km cyclothone on Sunday in connection with Bodhi 2022, a national urban development conclave to be hosted by GCDA in Kochi on October 9 and 10, 2022 while also marking the Ozone Layer Protection Day which fell on Friday. The cyclothone will be flagged off by Vice Admiral M A Humpiholi at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kaloor at 6 am at a function to be presided over by K Chandran Pillai, Chairman, GCDA. The cyclothone, to be participated by 300+ cyclists, will be passing through M G Road, Thevara, Thoppumpady BOT bridge, Perumpadappu, Kumbalanghi, Fort Kochi, Thoppumpady Harbour bridge, Naval Base, Thevara and M G Road before culminating at J N Stadium.

K Chandran Pillai, Chairman, GCDA, said cyclathone will uphold the basic values of Bodhi 2022 by passing through environmentally sensitive areas like Kumbalanghi and Chellanam and heritage zone like Fort Kochi. "The conclave will stress on planned and sustainable urban development and for a coastal city like Kochi, issues like climate change, global warming and protection of the ozone layer are very crucial when it comes to planning its future. That is why we decided to stage this cyclothone not only to raise awareness on the conclave, but also on the importance of environmental issues," he said.
