Kochi : The 4th edition of India Boat & Marine Show (IBMS), which has emerged as the country’s premier boat and marine industry-related expo with its three editions, will get over at Bolgatty Palace Event Centre in Kochi on Monday. Nearly 45 exhibitors display their products and services at the 3-day expo which has attracted more than 3000 business visitors in the first two days.
On the second day on Saturday, Mumbai-based SHM Shipcare launched Salmon 21 Y-380 6 M, an FRP boat. The boat is on display at Bolgatty jetty which evinced a lot of visitor-interest while a Japan-made battery winch for fishing boats to pull in the heavy nets with fish into the boat replacing the manpower required also was a talk of the town. Marketed by Kochi-based George Maijo Industries, the battery winch is expected to generate heavy demand in the coming days considering the scarcity for manpower in the region.
The show also witnessed the launch of a revolutionary new hybrid diesel-electric boat propulsion system by Dubai-based Elcome International. The system architecture, developed by Transfluid, incorporates a clutch and transmission that enables fast and seamless switching between electric-only, diesel- only or combination modes. When the clutch is disengaged, the vessel runs solely on battery power, providing silent emission-free running. When in “engine” mode, the clutch is engaged, and the diesels propel the boat while also simultaneously recharging the batteries. In the “booster” mode, the battery-driven electric motor and diesel engines combine to deliver maximum thrust for the powertrain.
Navalt Solar & Electric Boats is also among the exhibitors which was in the news sometime back by being the country's first zero-emission ferry Aditya 2017 solar boat. Another of the hits is a water bicycle called Manta5 imported from Sweden for the first time in India which can be used both by pedalling or using electric power.
The event is supported by K-BIP, KMRL, KMB, Cochin Shipyard, Cochin Port Trust, IWAI, Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and IMU. K-BIP has also put up a 20 stalls’ Industry Pavilion for Kerala-based SMEs from this sector.
