SHIMLA> After a gap of 25 years CPI M got elected to the Himachal Pradesh Assembly. Party candidate Rakesh Singha won from Theog assembly seat of Shimla district. This is the second time Singha getting elected to the Assembly. In 1993 he was elected from Shimla seat.
Singha got 24791 votes against BJP's Rakesh Verma who got 22808 votes. Congress candidate Deepak Rahour came third with 9101 votes.
In a statement, the CPI(M) politburo said the victory of its candidate Rakesh Singha was significant as it came against the background of a highly polarised election between two major parties."This victory reflects the faith the people of Theog have reposed in the CPI(M) to protect their rights and work for their interests in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly," the party said.
