Gandhi Smriti Held In Elanthoor Where Gandhiji Visited In 1937

Elanthoor :  A glittering Gandhi Smriti was organized on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi on Monday, October 2, with various programs in Elanthoor, commemorating the visit of Gandhiji to the place on January 20, 1937.

In a day-long event organized by the Elanthoor-based Thazhayil Group, Gandhians who were part of the freedom struggle and their family members from the region and about 15 people who have made great contributions in the fields of education, cinema, management and sanitation were felicitated.

Thomas John, chairman of the Group, delivered the introductory address followed by the inauguration by Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Great Metropolitan Kuriakose Mar Cleemis. Gandhian, former research guide of MG University and former principal of BAM College, Thuruthikkad, Dr Jose Parakadavil, delivered the Gandhi Commemoration lecture.

Bhadrakumar, son of Kumarji (K Kumar), a prominent Gandhian who invited Gandhiji to Elanthoor; Vanajakshiyamma; Leelabai, daughter of Khadardas T P Gopala Pillai; Sudheer Kumar, son of Meenakshi Amma and Prof (Dr) Jose Parakadavil were honored at the function.

Thazhayil Group General Manager Thampi M Mathai for leadership excellence in the field of management, Jude Anthany Joseph, director of the film 2018 which is the only nomination from India to the upcoming Oscars, and film star Aju Varghese were also honored.

MG University MCom 5th rank holder Juvelin, Sandra Saji, who secured high marks in Plus Two Science from St Mary's VHSS, Valiyakunnam, Ayiroor, Amala Udayan of VHSS Elanthoor and Sneha VS of Karamveli SNDP HSS who secured the endowment for Class 10 students; Asha workers Mani C P and Sreekala and Haritha Sena members Mini Thomas and Anju Viswanath were also felicitated.

Kumarji's son Bhadrakumar, Thazhayil Group MD Jinoy John, director Prof. Koshy Thomas and General Manager Thampi M Mathai also spoke on the occasion. At the meeting to be held in the afternoon, Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Theethos Episcopa  delivered the benedictory address.
