Sentenced for life imprisonment are former Vice President of Kanjirapuzha Panchayat and League leader CM Siddique, league workers naushan(Pandi Naushad), Nijas, Shamem, Salahudeen, Shameer, Kanicharli sulaiman, Ameer, Abdul Jaleel, Rasheed(Baputy), Ismail(Ipapai), Palakaparambil sulaiman, Shahab, Musthafa Nazar, Hamsa(Ikapa), Fazil Salim, seythali, Thajuddin, shafeer Fauz, Amjhad, Muhammad, Mumbsheer, and Muhamad Muhsil.
The verdict was delivered by Palakkad Additional District and Sessions Court(IV) judge, TH Rejitha. The case dates back to 20 Nov of 2013. On that night Kunjihamsa(48) of Pallath Veedu and his brother Noruddin(42) were hacked to death by League workers. A third brother, Kunjumuhamad(66), had a miraculous escape from the attackers.
Kunjihamasa had asked for stopping of League meetings inside the Kallankuzhy mosque and turning its pemises as venue for political activity. Kunjihamsa also secured a High Court order against the practice. Apart from this, setting up of DYFI unit in the League stronghold too enraged League members, resulting in the murderous retaliation that followed.
The last UDF govt tried hard to paint the murder as an outcome of family feud and made huge lapses in nabbing the culprits. CPI(M) protest inside and outside of Assembly ultimately forced authorities to capture the culprits.
27 persons were arraigned in the case. One accused, Hamsappa V Charnaykude, died during trial and another was a juvenile.
