Minimal Invasive Surgery: VPS Lakeshore Holds Proctology Workshop

Kochi : A live operative workshop and fellowship course in proctology was conducted at VPS Lakeshore Hospital by the Department of Minimally Invasive Surgery at VPS Lakeshore Hospital and the Verwandeln Institute, Kochi, in collaboration with the International Society of Coloproctology and Keyhole Clinic, Kochi. The event, known as ISCP 2023 Kochi, took place in Kochi on September 23rd and 24th, 2023, and brought together over a hundred surgeons from across India to advance their skills and knowledge in proctology—a dynamic surgical speciality focused on conditions such as haemorrhoids, fissures, fistulas, pilonidal sinus, prolapsed rectum, and restorative procedures in gynaecology.
 
Mr. S.K. Abdhulla, Managing Director of VPS Lakeshore Hospital, Kochi inaugurated the event. Dr. R. Padmakumar, Head of the Department of Minimally Invasive Surgery, presided over the event. Esteemed speakers, including Dr. Madhukar Pai D, Dr. Farish Shams, Dr. Shantikumar Chiviate, Dr. Prashant Rahate, Dr. L.D. Ladukar, Dr. Shanti Vardhani, and Dr. Mohan Mathew, addressed the gathered audience.

The primary goal of this workshop was to highlight the significance of proctology as a medical discipline and to enhance surgeons' proficiency in conducting safe and patient-friendly procedures. Recent years have witnessed significant advancements in proctological treatments, including the adoption of staplers, keyhole surgery, LASER procedures, sclerotherapy, fistuloscopy, flap surgery, and more. The event featured comprehensive discussions on these cutting-edge techniques, accompanied by live surgical demonstrations designed to augment the skills and knowledge of participating surgeons.
